I finished my project. I edited the first one by deleting the names of the pills on each one, so they look like generic pills. If I had not had my shift cut today, I don’t know how I would have had time to do this The dimensions are 12 ft high by 15 ft wide. It is made of bronze and painted over with oil paint. The proposed site is Medical Center of Arlington off of Matlock and I20W on the Women’s Center entrance.

I finished my first image for my sculpture proposal. I left certain images with the outer mass because I wanted them to look like an actual, paper collage. I faded the lady to make it look progressive to where she is walking towards her car. I used a photoshop filter on the overall background but not the seperate images because I did not want any of it to fade into the background, especially the sculpture. I also just put some generic silhouette of birds to add that collage feeling. My sculpture is actually placed on top of a hospital because it is composed of pills. I actually tranferred it on the roof and cleaned up the edges because I wanted it to look like part of the photograph. I dodged and burned a little bit to coincide with the sun, but it did not need much since the sun was pretty high in the sky. I am going to do one more image from the other side. I couldn’t exactly get on the roof and it’s not visible enough from the back of the hospital.

I finished my sheep project! I made a black sheep and a bright, colorful sheep! I had to glue the pieces together and then paint them. I tried to sand the sharp edges but I just used a blade to cut off some of the extra plaster. I was afraid that with sanding it would cause it to fall apart.

So I learned that we are making our final product out of plaster….kind of brittle. Because of the way the sheep’s ears turn down and legs turn out, there was no way for me to pull him out of the mold without something breaking off. I bought Gorilla Gle for class tomorrow and also plan on painting him. I made like 6 sheep to pick from so that at least 2 of them have to work out. Here are the updated pics of what I did the last couple of class periods. Tomorrow, I am also going to take a picture for the background of my sculpture/ collage. I wanted to do 2 different scenarios but it just isn’t working out and I think I have more time to make one really successful than make 2 mediocre images.

After hours and hours of deliberation, I figured out my sculpture for my last project. I tried stringing cigarette butts, putting pill bottles on sticks, and then….I just decided to do a sort of abstract shape with different pills. It was little, but I figure what I will do is enlarge it on Photoshop. I already took about a couple of hours tweeking the photo of the sculpture so to erase all the glue that was on the pills. I used gorilla glue because I couldn’t find my glue gun. Gorilla glue wasn’t working so I just decided to take a stick of glue and melt it with a lighter…and it worked! As to what I want the background to be, I’m not so sure yet. I just wanted to say that even though they are small pills, I did look at placement, shape, and color of the pills as to how I would put the sculpture together.

Ideas for the last project…

So, I decided for my final project, I would make some kind of sculpture made out of things we have an abundance of or throw away. It is down to two choices….cigarette butts or pills. It seems we have a pill for everything nowdays, and I just went through my medication last night and a lot are out of date. Then again, I have a lot of cigarette butts and all we do with them is throw them away. I like both ideas but I am not sure how to execute them. One guy used cigarette filters to use as fur for a sculpture of a rabbit, lol. Mostly for pills, I have seen hanging wall art. If I use the pills, I want it to be more a political statement. It’s still all up for grabs, but I need to hurry and decide since the semester is almost over

So last class I used my Brush On to coat the sheep two times. Today, 4 of us made plaster to make our outer shell.

I finished modeling the clay last class so at the end of class, I got to shalack (sp?) my figure. It had to sit for 24 hours, so next class, I am going to use the Brush on #40 to make the mold of my sheep.

Update on cartoon character

So, haven’t blogged in a while. I was in the hospital a couple of times one week for a miscarriage, and the next week, the internet was down. Now, I couldn’t even go to class today bc I had no gas to get to school. Luckily, nothing was due today, but I used up absences and accomplished nothing today. I think I laid in the bed half the day depressed. I did, however, order my latex stuff for class and it was shipped today! Although, it cost me $35.00 and that’s where my gas money went I am just so ready for this semester to be over with so that I can start over again. Maybe at that point, my husband’s job will give him more than 20 hours and we won’t have to worry about unemployment. F*%@ the economy! Anywho, yeah, I think if I had have made it to class today, i would have wanted to run someone over, so maybe it’s good I couldn’t go anywhere. I just wanted to post my abstract sculpture that I finished last week and my progression of my cartoon character. I am doing “counting sheep.” It is a sheep with a number on the side. He’s kind of too cute, like I want to give him fangs or something, lol, bc I’m so sick of the cute factor. I think it’s my safe zone. Even in high school, all my artwork was “cutsy.” So yeah, I think i’m going to make him like I originally planned and might change him up a bit. Maybe he’ll be like zombie or vampire sheep. lol

So I have to say that I am a little behind on this project. I missed 2 days while we have been working on it because I have been in and out of the hospital. I have sketched my ideas (not 12, like we are supposed to though) and I came up with the idea to makes a sheep. It will have a number on its side like “counting sheep.” I am about to actually sketch out the different angles and the details of the lamb. Right now, I am going to post some ideas and examples that I found on the internet. I might fix the legs like a stuffed animal, though, spread out. I don’t know, we’ll see.
